The Czech Republic became a member of the International Criminal Court today (July 8, 2009), as the last country in Europe, after Václav Klaus, President of the CR, signed the treaty. The idleness of the Czech Republic in this matter was recently repeatedly criticized from different sides: the EU council, the Czech Green Party (Strana zelených), and most recently 25 European organizations, headed by the Czech NGO People in need (Člověk v tísni).
